The focus should be on improving injured worker functionality and health status, not just eliminating pain.
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) May 23, 2012
PMSI, one of the nation’s largest and most experienced companies focused on workers’ compensation, announced the expansion of its online Pain Management Resource Center that includes portals for injured workers, physicians, claims professionals and employers. The site, accessible at http://www.PMSIonline.com/PainManagement, provides accurate, up-to-date information on various pain management topics that have been customized to the unique needs of the workers’ compensation industry.
“One of the common themes revealed in our discussions with customers was the need for education on opioid use and pain management for all stakeholders,” said Jay Krueger, PMSI’s Chief Strategy and Client Services Officer. “With access to these resources, we hope to enable injured workers, their physicians and claims professionals to better understand and manage the pain associated with the injuries, and avoid chronic issues that unmanaged pain can create, such as abuse and addiction.”
The Pain Management Resource Center provides online access to several Pain Treatment Guidelines, plus easy-to-find tools that help ensure safe, appropriate opioid utilization. Injured workers can find resources such as:
- Pain management basics, including signs and symptoms, medication and non-medication techniques
- How to talk to your doctor about pain, including pain assessment logs and common questions to ask
- Where to go for extra help, such as pain specialists and caregiver support
- Find answers to questions on addictions, stopping medications, generics vs. brand drugs and FDA drug updates
The Pain Management Resource Center is designed to provide information and education to all stakeholders involved in the care of the injured worker regarding the risks of opioid treatment and the use of opioids as only one of many approaches to address pain.
Krueger continued: “PMSI believes that the focus should be on improving injured worker functionality and health status, not just eliminating pain. By opening dialogue between the injured worker, treating physician, employer and insurer, PMSI can support the injured worker’s successful recovery and return to work.”
