While many K-12 districts expect the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to improve students’ skills in math and English language arts, educators are concerned about how they will make the shift to these internationally rigorous standards. Indeed, in a September 2011 report on its survey of districts in CCSS-adopting states, the Center on Education Policy revealed that about two-thirds of the districts cited inadequate or unclear state guidance on the CCSS as a major challenge to implementation.
To address this pressing need, Evans Newton Inc. (ENI), a leading provider in professional development, coaching, and school transformation for K-12 districts, today announces a new course for district and school leaders called “Leading the Conversion to Common Core Standards.” This on-site learning academy and virtual institute series, incorporates the company’s “learn” and “apply” methodology extending from the training room to the classroom, and is designed to help educational leaders and their leadership teams gain the knowledge and skills to lead an effective conversion to the CCSS and to 21st century instruction.
Through this three-module course, participants will explore and analyze the CCSS, discover the characteristics that separate the CCSS from existing state standards, and reflect on the instructional implications these standards present. They will then identify the training and resources needed to support their instructional staff through the role changes required to implement the CCSS and transform teaching and learning to align to 21st century college and workforce demands. Participants will also form local Communities of Professional Practice to collaboratively develop and implement their plan for CCSS-centered 21st century instruction and leadership at the school and district levels.
Leading the Conversion to Common Core Standards is the newest offering from ENI, a company of education professionals who are experts in school transformation. Through its comprehensive, customizable programs and leadership training courses, ENI helps school and district leaders achieve dramatic improvements in teacher and student performance.
