UTC RETAIL Introduces Enhanced Mobile Application for POS-J

Solution includes support for both Android and iOS tablets and smartphones

UTC RETAIL, a leading provider of retail management solutions, including software, hardware and professional services, announces the introduction of an enhanced mobile application suite for its POS-J in-store solution. Previously, POS-J’s mobile functionality was supported on industrialized handheld devices. This next generation mobile solution also supports tablet and smartphone devices that run the Android or iOS operating systems. In addition to traditional Point of Sale, line busting, item lookup (in-store and across the enterprise), receiving, and transfers, the advanced suite also supports gift registry and customer loyalty.

A recent study by Gartner indicates that worldwide tablet sales will continue to skyrocket in 2012. Gartner also expects the iPad to eventually account for 61.4 percent of all worldwide tablet sales. As a result of the increasing adoption of tablets and smartphones by consumers, retailers are aggressively evaluating how these devices can improve the overall customer experience, as well as their own operational efficiencies.

Unlike the various iPad-based apps for POS that are currently on the market, POS-J’s mobile solution is implemented using browser access to the store server. So, other than a web browser, nothing else is loaded on the device itself. This helps to minimize a retailer’s IT support needs and hardware requirements. Additionally, this implementation approach means that the application is “hardware agnostic” and can run on just about any tablet or smartphone, giving retailers a greater variety of choices in deploying the solution.
