Richmond, VA (PRWEB) May 23, 2012
The Whistleblower Defense group was established to handle the nationwide increase in retaliation claims. As co-chair John Davis states, “Whistleblower laws and litigation are around every corner, and businesses need the best advice to prepare and defend. At Williams Mullen we combine national experience, local knowledge and relationships, and a century of tradition in one great law firm.” John Davis is a former Assistant United States Attorney who has tried more than 100 cases and handled a greater number of federal court appeals. He also serves as co-chair of Williams Mullen’s White Collar and Investigations Team.
Whistleblower claims grow out of adverse employment actions against employees who have reported or complained about company misconduct. All businesses, regardless of size or type, can be at risk for whistleblower claims. This alleged misconduct can include false contract claims or corporate, banking, accounting, wire, or investor or securities fraud. In some cases, an employee may have reported alleged violations of laws and regulations relating to nuclear and environmental safety, highway safety, rail safety, food safety, consumer product safety, occupational safety or patient protection.
Williams Mullen has assembled a team of professionals with experience representing employers and corporate clients in a broad spectrum of whistleblower and retaliation actions and investigations under more than 25 statutes including: the False Claims Act, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Clean Air Act, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act and the Consumer Product Safety Act.
Mary Pivec, co-chair of the Whistleblower Defense Team comments, “Williams Mullen brings together employment, white collar and regulatory lawyers under the umbrella of our Whistleblower Defense Team to offer clients facing whistleblower complaints, agency investigations, and litigation the advantage of experienced and insightful analysis.” Ms. Pivec has more than 18 years of whistleblower defense experience, arguing her first whistleblower matter before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 1994 on behalf of Baltimore County, Maryland.
