For years, the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Programs (“SALP”) at Portland State University (“PSU”) had a paper-based system and struggled with mounds of paperwork that prevented staff from channeling their efforts towards student development. After implementing OrgSync, the office went paperless and the staff now spends their time focusing on more meaningful programs to support student growth.
OrgSync has enabled SALP to transition many of their manual processes online including, budget allocation and funding requests, room requests, and student organization registration. By transferring these tasks online, the department has seen:

“Before OrgSync, my staff felt as if I hired them to push pieces of paper around and were not utilizing their Student Affairs experiences to build programs for our students,” states Aimee Shattuck, Director of Student Activities and Leadership Programs at Portland State University.
Everyday campuses struggle to meet the demands of students because of their paper-based processes and procedures. The result can be a lack of resources dedicated to student growth and development programs, dissatisfied students, lost data, and low office morale.
In the case of SALP at PSU, the staff was spending 4 to 6 hours a day on both administrative and logistical paperwork. However, with OrgSync, Ms. Shattuck’s staff now spends 30 minutes to an hour on administrative tasks, down from six hours prior to OrgSync’s implementation, a savings of more than 80%.
“As a supervisor, OrgSync has helped me introduce efficient processes to my department so that my staff can work on more meaningful projects for our students. OrgSync has had a direct correlation with me retaining great staff and doing better work with students,” said Ms. Shattuck.
With more time to allocate towards developing meaningful student programs, SALP created the Leadership Fellows Program; the program helps more than 100 student leaders develop the understanding, knowledge, and skills they can use in their career and community work.
