France and Switzerland buy in to the growing trend for faster 10 seat gondolas sweeping Europe, reveal Crystal Ski.

Meribel in France

The next generation 10 seat gondola design is being rolled out in another of Crystal Ski's ski destinations. The large lifts already exist in the resorts of Plan de Corones in Italy, and Kitzbühel in Austria, but also planned to be opening at the end of this year in France and Switzerland too.

Both of the new, large gondolas are due to open in December this year, just in time for the 2012/13 ski season. The resorts receiving the Leitner lifts are the Swiss resort of Savognin, and the French ski resort of Meribel, part of the large ski area, the 3 Valleys. The lifts are manufactured by the Italian company Leitner who say “Every Leitner ropeway is a unique product, a customized solution… The result is maximum efficiency for operators, and a top-quality ride and maximum safety for their customers” of their designs.

Meribel’s new lift replaces the initial stages of the existing Plattières gondola, and can be used by Crystal Ski's customers visiting the resort from late December onwards. The current 22 minute journey will be dramatically reduced to just nine, as well as an increased capacity of 40%. The new lift in Savognin, Switzerland, will replace an existing chairlift that is nearly 30 years old and connect Tigignas and Somtgant.

Crystal Ski offer ski holidays to the top European ski areas, including Meribel in France, as well as resorts in the USA and Canada. Ski deals 2013 can now be found on their site, and ski packages are now available including flights, transfers, accommodation, ski/board hire or carriage and lift pass in one great value package.
