“We are helping health plans demonstrate the true value of chronic condition management and prevention through this new solution, as well as helping companies understand what the true costs of illness are to their employee’s productivity and to the bottom
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 31, 2012
HDMS announces the release of its Worker Productivity Reporting Module, a new health data solution that allows companies to analyze the indirect costs that employees’ medical care has on overall productivity. Research indicates that each sick day results in varying degrees of lost workforce productivity, which has a substantial effect on both an employer’s efficiency and the bottom line. HDMS is working with its health plan partners to leverage industry-standard productivity metrics to demonstrate the true value that increased prevention and wellness programs can have on a given population of health plan members.
By using medical data to analyze worker productivity, HDMS’ worker productivity reporting solution demonstrates what the tangible results of a healthier population are to a business’ bottom line. Better education, a focus on wellness, and improved medical management results in fewer sick days or time that employees spend recovering from an illness while at work – both of which result in lost productivity. The new module looks at worker absenteeism and presenteeism as well as chronic care management.
“Chronic conditions and illness lead to exponential days of lost productivity, which is why there is now such a push for prevention and wellness programs across the enterprise,” said Rick Abbott, Vice President of Health Plan Services for HDMS. “We are helping health plans demonstrate the true value of chronic condition management and prevention through this new solution, as well as helping companies understand what the true costs of illness are to their employee’s productivity and to the bottom line.”
HDMS’ Worker Productivity module looks at an employer’s utilization data and quantifies worker productivity in terms of both days and hours lost due to a sick day or other health event. A trip to the emergency room, for example, results in eight hours of lost productivity in a standard business day. Even once back in the office, that particular worker is less productive, resulting in additional productivity lost due to a health event.
By using published data on productivity, absenteeism and presenteeism - and benchmarking such information against a health plan’s utilization data - HDMS has developed a comprehensive worker productivity module that correlates employee sick days to the resulting lost productivity – giving both health plans and employers strong evidence and incentives to improve the overall health of their employees.
