People are travelling shorter distances for their holidays to save pounds on petrol, ferry and flight costs.

The campaign include a new website (http://www.holidayclosetohome.com) to help families save money on breaks and days out in Yorkshire by bringing together savings from Sand Le Mere and a wide range of attractions, museums and heritage sites including the world-renowned sea-life aquarium The Deep in Hull, Rievaulx Abbey on the North Yorkshire Moors and Brodsworth Hall, a beautiful Victorian country house and gardens in Doncaster.

Sand Le Mere, which is opening a new £4m pool and entertainment leisure complex in June, is backing the promotion with its own savings of up to 30% off holidays for Yorkshire families, so a three-night weekend break from 29 June, staying in a standard mobile home, is available from as little as £134, saving £57.

Peter Goundry, general manager at Sand Le Mere says: “We are seeing a very clear trend of people travelling shorter distances for their holidays so they can save hundreds of pounds on their petrol, ferry or flight costs.

“With so many of Yorkshire’s very best attractions taking part in our campaign the message is clear – holiday close to home for a great break, lots to see and do, and to get the most from your holiday spend.”
