Beginning in July the Pueblo Grande Museum in partnership with The Rossen House Museum will be offering their July 2012 Summer Programs: Hohokam Experience. Programs are offered to children ages 3-14 at Pueblo Grande Museum located at 4916 E. Washington just west of the Hohokam Freeway in Phoenix. Fun-filled days of activities celebrating ancient and modern music, archaeology, and “make and take” crafts run Tuesday through Friday for four weeks, beginning July 10th and concluding August 3rd.
Week 1: Music Way Back When: Then & Now

July 10 - 13
8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Participants are introduced to music from prehistoric native peoples to urban 19th century living musicians today. Then, make your own instruments from gourds, shells, string, and rhythm instruments! This session finishes with a jam session with various musicians!
Ages: 7-10, taking place onsite at Pueblo Grande Museum. Bring a lunch and snack! Parents/Guardian must sign the child in/out. Pre-registration is required.

Week 2: Archaeology: Excavation to Storage

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Participants learn the techniques of excavation, how to process items for a museum’s collections, why conservation is important and so much more.
Ages: 10-14 taking place onsite at Pueblo Grande Museum. Bring a lunch and snack! Parents/Guardian must sign the child in/out. Pre-registration is required.
Cost: $125 / participant
Week 3: Make it and Take it!

July 24 - 27
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
A variety of arts and crafts each week for children ages three and up that focus on the American Indian, Hohokam and early historic Phoenix culture. This is a program the whole family will enjoy. (Museum fee: $6 adults/$5 seniors 55+, $3 6-17 and children under 6, FREE!)
Pre-registration is not required.
Ages 3-14 taking place onsite at Pueblo Grande Museum. Participants must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: $5 per child.
Week 4: Make it and Take it!

Pueblo Grande Museum is an archaeological site museum and repository operated by the City of Phoenix since 1929. They collect, preserve, research, interpret, and exhibit cultural materials from the site of Pueblo Grande and the Greater Southwest.
