The Mark Sublette Medicine Man Gallery presents a wide selection of landscape paintings in its upcoming art exhibit, “Landscapes of the West,” opening at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012. The show runs from June 15 to July 11. Academic, modernist, and en plein air landscape painting was a staple of Santa Fe galleries. Now, these modes are an endangered species in New Mexico. The tradition of landscape painting will be kept alive in this show, which features several new works by gallery artists. Artists include Glenn Dean, Josh Elliott, Ron Elstad, Veryl Goodnight, Gregory Hull, Francis Livingston, Merrill Mahaffey, Dominik Modlinski, P. A. Nisbet, Howard Post, Glenn Renell, Ray Roberts, Sue Rother, W. Jason Situ, Gary Ernest Smith and Dennis Ziemienski. This is a SantaFe.com event calendar “Featured Event”.

About the Mark Sublette Medicine Gallery:
Dr. J. Mark Sublette, born in a small town in eastern New Mexico, grew up purchasing Indian art the way some kids collect baseball cards. He doesn’t have to think for longer than a heartbeat what fueled his passion for Native American art. “The people,” states Dr. Sublette. “I always used to go to Santa Fe, up into the square and the pueblos to buy from the artists. That’s what really gave me the love for it, being around and seeing how things are done.”
