Essential Pharmaceuticals, LLC donated its organ preservation solution, Custodiol® HTK Solution, to Dr. Marco Paliotta, http://drpaliotta.com, to be used on a medical mission trip to Assiut, Egypt with ICHF. During the mission trip, Dr. Paliotta and his team at the Assiut Children's Hospital used Custodiol® HTK Solution during surgeries to treat congenital heart defects in local children. One of its many applications is to protect the heart during major bypass surgeries, such as the ones Dr. Paliotta and the surgeons working on behalf of ICHF performed. Custodiol® HTK Solution preserves hearts, livers, kidneys and pancreases prior to and during transplantation.

Dr. Paliotta is a regular volunteer with ICHF, performing surgeries to treat congenital heart defects in local children in hospitals without fully capable or established cardiac programs. Dr. Paliotta was the first doctor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center to use the Custodiol® HTK Solution and has kept a working relationship with Essential Pharmaceuticals, LLC since January 2009. Like Dr. Paliotta, Essential Pharmaceuticals, LLC often donates its resources to organizations that provide life-saving surgeries.

Dr. Paliotta, http://drpaliotta.com, attended Medical School at the University of Rome – La Sapienza. His current position is Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma’s Health Science Center specializing in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. In addition to volunteering with ICHF, Dr. Paliotta also supports the American Heart Association, Corazon con Esperanza and Habitat for Humanity.
