“On behalf of the PA Foundation and Pharmavite, we applaud David’s dedication and clinical work to address the issue of nutrient shortfalls and overall health in this significant patient population,” said Lisa Gables, PA Foundation Executive Director.
NORTHRIDGE, CALIF (PRWEB) May 29, 2012
Pharmavite LLC, the maker of Nature Made® vitamins and dietary supplements, in partnership with the Physician Assistant Foundation (PA Foundation), is pleased to announce the winner of the Prevention Ambassador Award in nutrition intervention, recognizing physician assistants who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to overall good health and disease prevention.
David Kellenberger, MPAS, RD, PA-C, was awarded a $15,000 grant for his work in bariatric surgery and dedication to the healthcare profession. Over a four-year period he evaluated and managed numerous vitamin and mineral deficiencies pre and post surgery for more than 1,000 patients. Kellenberger’s program includes “Dietary Changes that Matter,” a presentation that focuses on key dietary changes needed to address nutrient shortfalls, including the use of dietary supplements and lifestyle changes with safe and effective protocols.
“On behalf of the PA Foundation and Pharmavite, we applaud David’s dedication and clinical work to address the issue of nutrient shortfalls and overall health in this significant patient population,” said Lisa Gables, PA Foundation Executive Director. “We also extend our sincere thanks to Pharmavite for their support of the Prevention Ambassador Award program, and value the brand’s longstanding commitment to ensuring that people can easily get the nutrition they need to live in the best possible health.”
Kellenberger plans to use the grant to support a new program that directly addresses issues such as patient follow-up, compliance with vitamin and mineral supplementation, and reduced fat dietary recommendations, among other initiatives that benefit bariatric surgery patients. As a physician assistant, registered dietitian, and son of a former health food store owner’ Kellenberger has devoted his clinical career towards the care of those with nutritional disease.
Research shows that the quality of the American diet gets a failing grade. According to the Healthy Eating Index, adults (19+ years) rank 50 out of 100 on the quality of their diets. In addition to incorporating healthier food choices, dietary supplements can be helpful to meet nutrient shortfalls.
The PA Foundation established the Prevention Ambassador Award this year to recognize a PA who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to disease prevention and promoting overall good health in the community he or she serves. Entries were judged based on purpose, description, evidence-based practice and patient safety, originality, clinical significance, results, applicability and intention.
The award was presented on May 28 during the PAramount Evening at the American Academy of Physician Assistants Annual PA Conference held in Toronto, Canada.
