Taking Social Media to Living Media

Social media is an important tool for connecting with friends and family as well as networking with professional contacts, recruiting employees, and building business relationships. Both small companies and multinational organizations depend on social networking sites and online marketing channels to draw in customers and build brand recognition.

Companies like Facebook and Twitter have capitalized on and grown from mainstream acceptance of their products. But, what’s next for social media? The answer lies with Zngle.com’s innovative social networking and augmented reality platform.

Since mainstream society has become reliant on social media; one must ask what next? A new company has taken on the David, and Goliath challenge of becoming a social media giant. The president of Zngle Inc. stated: “if you try to compete with companies like Facebook and Twitter doing exactly what they are doing, you’re destined for failure.” Manfred further stated: “we are not trying to compete with social media giants, we are taking social media to living media."

At first, we were very skeptical, with a big (yeah right) flashing in our minds. To our amazement when we watched the video on http://www.zngle.com we were very impressed. Given that Zngle’s mobile app is still in the review process with Apple, we feel launching the app will be paramount to their success. In speaking with the president, he feels they have a clever monetization strategy for their app. App monetization has been a problem for many social media companies due to the majority of their member base accesses the site through their mobile devices.

The development and testing of zngle’s mobile app were done with TestFlight which is a system to allow web developers, app developers, designers, project managers and testers a way to distribute and beta test apps. Since we didn’t have access to the app, we asked Zngle for a sneak peak by posting a video: http://vimeo.com/43011518 of the app.

What makes Zngle unique is their zone functionality which enables only people in the particular zone to see your post. For instance, if you don’t want family members to see pictures of your wild night out, you can post it to your close friends or you can create a zone can name it whatever you want. When you enable certain zones like colleague and hobby zone you will be automatically networked with other Zngle members who enabled that zone as well.

In conclusion, we must ask ourselves is there room in the social media space. When we analyze member feedback, we find a growing number of people looking for alternatives due to privacy worries and UI changes forced upon them. We feel there is potential for a company like Zngle to succeed in building a good member base. To get more information go to http://www.zngle.com and watch the four-minute video.
