Retreat will offer families a sampling of the holistic wellness programs available at The Cottages on Mountain Creek

The Cottages on Mountain Creek, a specialized care and support resource for adults living with mental illness, will celebrate the grand opening of their multi-disciplinary Creekside Wellness Center on June 15, with a retreat for Atlanta area families affected by mental illness.

The day-long retreat hosted in the new, Creekside Wellness Center, will feature a variety of the wellness-focused therapies offered daily to clients and residents of The Cottages on Mountain Creek. These activities include yoga, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, art, music, and culinary classes. Creekside’s licensed and certified therapists and instructors will be on hand to lead families and caregivers through a day of relaxation and enrichment.

In addition to the wellness activities and therapies, several discussion sessions will be held. Led by certified family therapists and specialists in behavioral therapies, these discussions are designed to encourage families to connect with one another and discover new ways to approach the caring and treatment of a loved one with mental illness.

“The Cottages on Mountain Creek understands the many stresses placed on a family dealing with mental illness, “says Carol Reynolds, President of The Cottages on Mountain Creek. “We are thrilled to offer families and caregivers a much deserved “day-off” while introducing them to the many supportive, caring and nurturing resources we can provide for their loved ones.”

The Cottages on Mountain Creek will continue its efforts to assist families living with mental illness as sponsor of a national housing and services survey focused on documenting difficulties and finding solutions for those living with mental illness. The results of the survey will be presented at the National Mental Health Housing Forum to be held September 27 and 28, 2012 at the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
