Octo Consulting Group, a leading provider of technology and management consulting services to the Federal government, today announced the appointment of Dr. Charlie Mead as the new Director of Health IT.

Dr. Mead has over 35 years of experience in digital signal processing and algorithm development, complex software systems and architectures, and healthcare and life sciences informatics. He has experience in clinical trials methodologies and data management systems, application of the Unified Process, and fundamental healthcare and life sciences informatics issues including terminology management, application of the Health Level Seven (HL7) Reference Information Model (RIM), and use of Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) standards. Dr. Mead is currently Chair of the HL7 Architecture Board, Co-Chair of the W3C Healthcare Life Sciences Group, member of the BRIDG Board of Directors, past-Chair of the Open Health Tools Architecture Project Team, and a former member of the CDISC Board of Directors. He is also a Certified SOA Analysis Specialist, a Certified SOA Architecture Specialist, and a Certified SOA Governance Specialist (Arcitura Education, formerly SOA School, Thomas Erl-Director, Architura.com). Dr. Mead earned his Doctor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, and then practiced Emergency Medicine for 9 years before returning to Washington University to earn a Master of Science degree in Computer Science. Prior to beginning his medical training, Dr. Mead earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Northwestern University. Since 2006, Dr. Mead has supported the National Cancer Institute (Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology) as a Senior Technical Advisor to the Director.
