"The New York companies, both high-tech startups, offer complementary technologies for the protection of critical infrastructure."

HyGie-Tech USA and Buffalo BioBlower have signed a validation agreement to model simulated airborne contamination from Aspergillus fumigatus (ATCC strain 10894), a fungus found in soil and decaying organic matter that can cause disease in immunosuppressed individuals such as patients undergoing bone marrow transplants or chemo therapy. The New York companies, both high-tech startups, offer complementary technologies for the protection of critical infrastructure.

HyGie-Tech USA (Albany, NY) uses HG_Flow software to provide precise, rapid airflow modeling of how potentially harmful particles behave in indoor environments. By quantifying the level of risk associated with exposure to chemical and biological agents and other hazardous materials, the company’s risk-oriented CFD (roCFD) solution allows its risk assessment services to support facilities managers as they work proactively to manage risk.

Buffalo BioBlower (Buffalo, NY) has developed a patented technology that uses compressive heating to instantly sterilize air without filters, chemicals, or radiation. According to the company’s website, the compressive heating of air can be used to destroy airborne pathogens such as anthrax spores, smallpox, SARS, MARS, influenza, tuberculosis and avian flu. Using a heat exchanger, the heated stream of air is then cooled, with the recovered heat used to preheat the gas on the inlet side of the BioBlower.
