TrialCard Switches from Symantec to OpenDNS Enterprise for “Painless” Internet-Wide Security

The agile pharmaceutical solutions organization selected OpenDNS Enterprise for Web filtering and malware protection because the solution requires minimal support from the organization’s IT team.

OpenDNS, the world's largest and fastest-growing provider of Internet security and DNS services that deliver a safer, faster and more intelligent Internet experience to everyone, today announced TrialCard is using OpenDNS Enterprise, the favorite solution of businesses of all sizes that require an easy-to-manage, scalable security solution. TrialCard, which provides solutions to the pharmaceutical industry to improve access and affordability of their medicines to patients, is using OpenDNS Web filtering and malware protection to more efficiently allocate its IT resources.

Prior to deploying OpenDNS Enterprise, TrialCard was using a Symantec (MessageLabs) Web filtering solution but found that it couldn’t keep up with the organization’s rapid pace. “We had already tried a few so-called cloud-based solutions but they didn’t offer the ease-of-management and deployment that we were looking for,” explained TrialCard SysAdmin Brandon Sabol. “Our business moves very fast and we wanted something that was not a lot of hassle to get up and running and that any member of our team could easily understand.”

Many of the TrialCard team members were already familiar with OpenDNS as users of the company’s offerings for home Internet users, and they began evaluating OpenDNS Enterprise at the recommendation of other industry peers. The team quickly determined OpenDNS Enterprise was the ideal fit for their Web filtering and malware protection needs. Sabol explained, “OpenDNS Enterprise did not require much change to our architecture or additional resources for management. It was the best choice for us because it was easy to implement and manage.”

TrialCard’s small-but-effective IT team prides itself on not just being highly responsive but, more importantly, highly proactive. OpenDNS Enterprise allows them spend very little time on managing a Web filtering program and cleaning up malware infections so they can focus on more critical areas of business. Sabol explains that OpenDNS Enterprise malware protection, “allows us to stop malware before it even enters the environment. Keeping it out completely rather than dealing with it on an end user machine is much preferred.”

The TrialCard team reports that OpenDNS Enterprise gave the company an immediate return on its investment in its savings on IT time and resources. “OpenDNS Enterprise is incredibly easy to implement,” Sabol explained. “Once we redirected our DNS queries to OpenDNS and did a few simple setup steps for our networks, we were up and running. No proxy servers and no appliances – it was completely painless for us.”

OpenDNS Enterprise can also be easily managed through a centralized Web-based Dashboard from anywhere, on any Internet-connected device. This allows the TrialCard IT team to quickly respond to requests and adjust settings on the fly, for any of the organization’s four locations.

Sabol concluded, “At the pace we move, time is a very precious resource and we welcome finding savings wherever we can. OpenDNS Enterprise fits perfectly into our strategy.”
