Partnership combines quality, ecological and economical bamboo flooring/panels/veneers/stair systems and mouldings to the state of Michigan

Higuera Hardwoods LLC is now manufacturing and distributing quality (FSC) Forestry Stewardship Certified bamboo products to the greater state of Michigan through Public Lumber Company. This alliance combines the ecological benefits of a full line of durable quality bamboo with Public Lumber Company’s full-service millwork facility and lumberyard which specializes in the stocking and manufacturing of exotic and domestic hardwood moldings and rough hardwood boards.

With this partnership, Joe Gallegos, CEO of Higuera Hardwoods LLC, and Craig Sarafa, CEO of Public Lumber Company, are amalgamating sustainable bamboo products with a company that is approaching a century of service in traditional hardwoods. Higuera Hardwoods has over a decade of service in providing the finest bamboo products available, and is well-suited to provide the perfect product answer to LEED certified projects. Bamboo is an excellent alternative to traditional hardwood because the rapidly growing grass is as strong as wood, but it can be harvested from sustainable sources in one-third of the time.

Higuera Hardwoods LLC is one of the first US based manufacturer/distributors to offer FSC approved bamboo products. The company only uses properly aged Moso bamboo, which is available in solid, strand woven, and engineered grade-A bamboo. All Higuera Hardwoods bamboo products meet and/or exceed the FSC E1 emission standards, and comply with the new California Carb I and Carb II requirements.

Public Lumber Company stocks over 25 species of wood including domestic and exotic hardwoods, marine grade and hardwood plywood, Ipe hardwood decking, clear softwoods and hardwood veneer. They are well known for their custom moldings because they template, grind and maintain their own in-house molding library that contains over 1000 molding profiles, and they can duplicate any profile, sample or drawing. They also manufacture custom millwork, cabinetry, stair parts, and interior and exterior doors.

Craig Sarafa says, “We are elated to partner with an equally ecologically-minded company like Higuera Hardwoods. The combination of both of our product lines have a great synergy that will address the growing trend toward green building, decorating and LEED certification.”
