Lorne Heise, CEO of Heat-Line Corporation, is pleased to announce that the CARAPACE® water pipe now conforms to B137.1 standards, receiving CSA and cNSF approval on April 18, 2012 for use in Canada and in the United States. The B137.1 standard specifies requirements for thermoplastic pipe, tubing and fittings that are intended for use in pressure applications such as water-based ground source geothermal systems, water lines, water mains, sewer force mains and underground irrigation systems. The requirements for approved products include quality of workmanship, dimensions, materials, long-term performance under sustained hydrostatic pressure, environmental stress cracking, impact resistance, extrusion and markings.

CARAPACE® is a self-regulating heated polyethylene water pipe designed to provide high performance, energy efficient protection for use in municipal and domestic water supplies and sewage forced main applications. Its outstanding energy saving performance is due to the patented product design where the conductive polymer heater or heating cable is always in full lineal contact with the polyethylene pipe wall for superior heat conduction and transfer. Its design also eliminates cold spots, where under extremely cold conditions, a standard water pipe may not receive heat because of poor heating cable contact. CARAPACE® is the only product that Heat-Line recommends for use with constant pressure water systems. The system requires no excavation. In rural areas, where the frost line is deep and rocky terrain can make excavation difficult and expensive, it provides a quick, reliable and cost-effective alternative to rock blasting and deep digging below the frost line.
