After Five Years of Success, Charity Wine Vendor ONEHOPE Wines Boast Over $750,000 in Charity Donations, an Expanded Market, and Remarkable Business and Charity Achievements

Friday, June 1, marks the fifth birthday of charity wine distributor ONEHOPE Wine. It’s been five years since this company, which donates 50% of its profits to a range of charities, grew out of One Wine, based on the belief that a California wine company could do more, could give back, and work towards “HOPE for the future.” Though the idea of cause-brands is not unique to ONEHOPE, they have the charity wine market cornered, and certainly have several remarkable successes to celebrate on this 5th birthday.

The biggest is having raised over $750,000 for charities in these five short years, despite having started in the modest living rooms and trunks of the eight founders. This achievement is even more surprising because ONEHOPE has its bottles in the restaurants and stores of only 18 states, with online purchase and delivery available to an additional 19 states. This reach is an accomplishment in itself for the Southern California retailers who once rejoiced to have Newport’s own Mama D’s start carrying their wine at all a few years ago. But still, it suggests how effective they have been to generate $1.5 million in profits in just five years when they are only sold in select stores and restaurants in select states.

$750,000 in donations is certainly a significant milestone. But the nature of this success is an important accomplishment itself. Early on ONEHOPE recognized the fact that people in the United States yearn to be generous, but they often lack the kind of avenue for donations that makes the act comfortable. Charity wine is the perfect solution because it doesn’t require people to expose their information to uncertain groups or submit themselves to pestering phone calls. Instead, they get world class wine, the ability to choose one charity to receive part of the donation, and the knowledge of which of ONEHOPE’s main causes the remainder of the donation will support, all for the cost of a reasonably priced bottle of wine.

There’s a reason the individuals behind ONEHOPE are so passionate about giving. Beyond it being a powerful selling point to which many cause-oriented people are drawn, it is personal. The entire company began with their efforts to support a friend in her fight against cancer. This belief remains fundamental and motivates their driving principal: Giving back is good business.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they get to be passionate about doing good while selling great wine. All their wine comes from the Robert Mondavi family winery, started by the visionary winemaker who helped develop and define California wines.

Its first five years have seen ONEHOPE enjoy great success, and on its birthday, everyone involved seems very excited about the future.
