We hope the items in a ShelterBox inspire others to create their own kits, tailored to the needs of their families.
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) May 31, 2012
Hurricane season begins June 1 through Nov. 30 and international disaster relief organization, ShelterBox USA, urges American families to get prepared now.
ShelterBox USA, which responds to disasters such as hurricane, earthquake, flood, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of aid to help families rebuild their lives, is urging Americans to create their own survival kits.
Each ShelterBox, which is hand-delivered worldwide by highly-trained ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) volunteers, is packed based on the needs of disaster survivors but typically includes a family tent, water purification system, water carriers, cookware, tool kit, blankets and other essential supplies.
“At ShelterBox USA, we focus on providing assistance to those who need it most following disasters and prepare by prepositioning aid all around the world,” said Emily Sperling, president of ShelterBox USA.
“But as individuals, we can all take steps to prepare for the unexpected disaster that can impact our own families.”
While the charity does not sell its ShelterBox kits, it accepts donations to deliver them to the most vulnerable families made homeless by a disaster.

Sperling added, “We hope the items in a ShelterBox inspire others to create their own kits, tailored to the needs of their families.”
