It’s official; Raleigh’s Mayor, the Honorable Nancy McFarlane, an avid sewing and quilting enthusiast herself, officially welcomes thousands of active stitchers from across the state to Original Sewing and Quilt Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 21st. Everyone in attendance will be able to join her as she shares a preview tour of the extensive quilt collections on display at the three-day event, the biggest gathering of its kind in the state.
Hundreds of quilts in diverse collections, created by artists and artisans from across the country are on display in the Expo Galleries – traditional quilts, modern quilts, art quilts, specially-curated collections, benefit quilts, faculty quilts, competition quilts and more.
For three days this summer thousands of enthusiasts will pour into the Raleigh Convention Center to enjoy sewing, embroidery and quiltmaking classes, trunk shows and how-to stage presentations, quilt exhibits and special events – a truly inspiring experience and one which sends everyone home refreshed, with new ideas, tools and know-how for increased creative enjoyment.
More than 100 classes and workshops led by faculty from across the country focus on not only quiltmaking, but also garment sewing, gift and craft sewing, machine embroidery, surface design, embellishment and more, taking textile arts – and the satisfaction they bring -- to new heights.
And there’s shopping, shopping and more shopping! The Exhibit Hall is filled with retailers from across the nation presenting the latest tools, supplies, ideas and inspiration. North Carolina’s sewing, embroidery and quiltmaking enthusiasts can consult with the experts and designers as they learn about everything needed for a year’s worth of projects and personal satisfaction.
Original Sewing and Quilt Expo runs Thursday, June 21st through Saturday, June 23rd at the Raleigh Convention Center. Exhibit Hall hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 10:00 to 5:30 on Saturday. Open to the public, General Admission is $10 at the door.
