Four Canadian Olympians and Olympic hopefuls were part of the royal tour for His Royal Highness, Charles, Prince of Wales.
His Royal Highness was greeted at a 2015 Pan American Games site by Canadian Olympic Committee Board Member Deidra Dionne (2002 and 2006 Olympian – Freestyle Skiing), Crispin Duenas (2008 Olympian – Archery), Tobias Oriwol (2008 Olympian – Swimming) and Michelle Li (nominated to 2012 Canadian Olympic Team – Badminton).
The four athletes spoke to His Royal Highness Prince Charles, shared their experiences as athletes and excitement for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games and even had the opportunity to demonstrate their sports.
“Today was a wonderful opportunity to showcase to His Royal Highness the ongoing preparation for the 2015 Pan American Games,” said Olympian Deidra Dionne. “Ontario is looking forward to welcoming athletes and visitors from around the world.”
“His Royal Highness was keen to hear all about our Olympic Games experiences,” said Olympian Tobias Oriwol. “I look forward to representing Canada, once again, at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.”
“I am excited about being newly nominated to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team,” said Olympic hopeful Michelle Li. “His Royal Highness was very interested to learn all about my sport of badminton.”
“It was a great experience to be able to demonstrate my sport of archery with Prince Charles today,” said Olympian Crispin Duenas. “I was impressed with his archery skills and enjoyed the opportunity.”
Prince Charles and Lady Camilla are on a four-day tour to Canada as part of the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
