Partnering with Coast2Coast Rx to provide this free resource to our constituents was an easy decision and has proven to be beneficial to both residents and the county at large - San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox

The providers of the Coast2Coast Rx card, a free discount prescription program endorsed by the California State Association of Counties (CSAC), announced that they are attending the 2012 CSAC Legislative Conference, which began today and continues through May 31. CSAC officially endorsed the Coast2Coast Rx card program in September 2011.
The Coast2Coast card earned CSAC’s endorsement for two reasons: the Coast2Coast card offers greater discounts and has a much greater usage rate than other cards. Greater usage results in greater savings for residents on their necessary prescription medications. Recognizing the tremendous benefits to their constituents, 22 of the 58 counties in California have already agreed to endorse program, which comes at no cost to the county. Additionally, given that Coast2Coast distributes the cards; their participation in the program does not require added administrative work from county employees.
“Partnering with Coast2Coast Rx to provide this free resource to our constituents was an easy decision and has proven to be beneficial to both residents and the county at large,” stated San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox.
In addition to the numerous participating counties in California, the program has been approved by public administrations of more than 180 governmental entities across the country. Coast2Coast Rx offers discounts on thousands of brand name and generic medications at major chain and many independent pharmacies. With no restrictions on age, income status, or existing health conditions, the no-cost program is easily available without paperwork or enrollment requirements. Other free discounts contained on the card include dental, vision, veterinary, hearing, lab, imaging and diabetes equipment and supplies at substantially reduced prices. Even many pet prescriptions are covered.
For consumers managing the expense of health care without the safety net of insurance, or who have insufficient coverage or high deductibles, the card can be a significant cost-saver and in some cases the card can even help offset the costs of the Medicare Part D “donut hole.” The mission of Coast2Coast Rx—to provide savings on thousands of prescription drugs while improving health outcomes—is furthered with the endorsement of CSAC and public officials, as it helps to increase the awareness and use of the card. In California, the card has allowed users to save more than $30 million on prescription drugs since 2008, helping to ease the burden of expenses on necessary medications for those who need it most.
Focusing on realignment, pension reform and redevelopment, the 2012 CSAC Legislative Conference is presenting the latest information and facilitating discussion on key issues that will help shape policy, budgets and programs in the coming years. Among CSAC’s objectives are to improve the financial viability of all California counties and to educate the public about the importance of county programs.
“With the support of CSAC and county supervisors and administrators throughout the state, the Coast2Coast RX card can help improve health outcomes by allowing consumers to save significantly on their prescriptions and other health care services,” said Coast2Coast Rx Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach. “CSAC, county supervisors and health administrators can play a critical role in this effort by helping to increase awareness of the program and making it available to as many residents as possible.”
