Stockton-based firm Innov8 Disposal is celebrating after becoming a finalist in the prestigious National Recycling Awards.

Innov8 Disposal is the only North East company to have been shortlisted for the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycler of the Year category, along with five other firms from across the UK.

This category recognises Innov8 Disposal for its practice in competently sorting, grading and refurbishing as many IT and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) items as possible, while recycling all major components of any items that are unable to be refurbished.

The winners of the National Recycling Awards – the most prestigious accolades in the UK’s waste management calendar – will be announced at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel on July 3rd.

Prior to being short-listed for an Award, Innov8 Disposal has previously won two North East accolades, including the Entrepreneurs’ Forum’s If We Can, You Can Challenge and, more recently, the Environment category of the Best New Business Awards.

Louise Moore, managing director of Innov8 Disposal, said: “It’s a real honour to have been short-listed for Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycler of the Year.

“There are other waste disposal companies which remove WEEE by shredding the items; but we are different in that we follow the three Rs of waste hierarchy: reduce, reuse and recycle. We’re also committed to sending zero waste to landfill, and we never sell to third world countries where people can be harmed in attempting to recycle the items.

“It’s fantastic to have been recognised for what we do, and the fact that we are in the running for this Award along with some of the very best companies in our industry shows that we really do mean business.”

The Company has now recruited its very first apprentice, Matt Fisk from Stockton, as well as new IT technician Danny Hoyland and recycling operative/driver Chris Masters, to help keep up with its ever-growing client base, which now includes Gateshead College and Swan Hunter.

Louise added: “Taking on more staff members is helping us in our mission to become the UK’s largest WEEE refurbishment company.

“We’re now looking forward to growing and developing the Company further to keep up with changes within the recycling industry.”
