Hipstamatic Encourages Users to Tap Into Their Inner Artists, and Make the World Beautiful One Photo At a Time

Hipstamatic today launched its first-ever global art project, Make Beautiful, encouraging its community to create art and share beautiful moments through photos. Fueled by a manifesto, Make Beautiful has two main components: a live photo feed showcasing Hipstamatic #MakeBeautiful photos from around the world, and a library of Make Beautiful art and designs users can download and “remix” for their own creations.

#MakeBeautiful Photo Feed
Make Beautiful is meant to inspire the Hipstamatic community to recognize and create more beauty in the world. Users are then encouraged to snap Hipstamatic photos, tag them with #MakeBeautiful, and share to Instagram or Twitter. Those photos will be showcased on the Make Beautiful website, which has also been optimized for viewing on mobile devices.

“We all have the power to create and inspire, and that’s what this global art project is about,” said Lucas Buick, CEO of Hipstamatic. “We have users all over the world—over half of our users are international—and we wanted to provide a fun way to both showcase photos and help with photo discovery. We’re asking all Hipstamatic users to tap into their inner artists, and be part of a live photo feed that's meant to highlight beautiful moments from around the world.”
Manifesto and “Remix” Make Beautiful

In addition to the live photo aggregation feed, the Make Beautiful website features a manifesto and library of Make Beautiful art that can be downloaded and used for Facebook cover photos, iPhone, iPad and desktop wallpapers—even patterns for stickers and posters. People can also download original Illustrator files to “remix” the Make Beautiful art, and put their own twists on the designs. To share their new creations with the world, they can snap photos, tag with #MakeBeautiful, share to Instagram or Twitter, and show up in the live photo feed.

“We have a really creative community, and wanted to give them an opportunity to fully participate in and take ownership of the Make Beautiful art project. By giving them full access to our original design files, we're opening up a new way to engage and create with them,” said Buick. “Nothing would make us happier than seeing our community take the Make Beautiful designs and make them their own. We’d love to see new twists on the art resurrected on kites, t-shirts, posters—really, the sky’s the limit!”

I am the creator, maker of moments,
Fighter of what I want versus what is expected of me.
I believe beauty is found in imperfections.
Every situation is an opportunity to capture only the beautiful.
Today I open my eyes onto the world.
Embrace that it will become what I make it.
A place that has purpose.
Where stories inspire me to capture them.
It's time to share.
Make the world right.
Make the world a work of art.
Make Beautiful.

Hipstamatic has revolutionized photography in the smartphone era. Its flagship application, the Hipstamatic app for iPhone, launched in 2009 and was awarded Apple’s App of the Year in 2010. The app remains one of the top grossing apps in the App Store today.
