Penn Badgley's stock as a serious actor appears to be on the up. After his breakthrough role starring as Scott Tucker in the 2006 teen hit comedy "John Tucker Must Die" last year's financial thriller "Margin Call" where he starred alongside Jeremy Irons and Kevin Spacey won him many plaudits from many sources.
According to the movie blog site MovieFavorites.org, Badgely seems set to wow audiences later this year when he portrays the late musician Jeff Buckley in a new biopic titled "Greetings From Tim Buckley." The movie is set to be released later this year, and the blog site reported that Badgley has even been taking singing and guitar lessons for the role.
The Movie favorites article added that, according to the Huffington Post, Badgley will portray Buckley in the days leading up to a 1991 memorial performance for Buckley's father, Tim. Both Tim and Jeff Buckley were cult figures on the folk/rock scene and who both sadly died at a young age before their careers really took off. Tim Buckley came to prominence in the late 1960s and died of a heroin overdose in 1975.
His son Jeff Buckley shot to fame in the mid 1990s when his first and only album "Grace" became a worldwide hit. His cover of the Leonard Cohen classic "Hallelujah" really catapulted him to fame. Jeff Buckley sadly died after drowning in the Wolf river in Tennessee in 1997. Fans of Badgley will be eagerly anticipating the release of the movie.
