The 2nd Annual Global Game Industry Forum will be held June 6th at 8:30 AM at the Border Grill in Downtown Los Angeles. Core sponsors include DFC Intelligence, Intel, the PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA) and Zebra Partners. The theme of this year’s event will be trends among core gamers. The forum consists of a breakfast and two panels.
The most active consumer of video games is males age 12-30. Understanding what these consumers are doing is a key to understanding the future of the game industry. With a cyclical decline in the console business there is some concern gamers are getting tired of console games. There is some concern that new mobile platforms, free-to-play products and social network games may be taking away from the core base. The Game Industry Forum will focus on if and how this may be occurring. How much are platforms like the iPad and Facebook cannibalizing dedicated console and portable systems?
The first panel will be moderated by Perrin Kaplan and feature Dusty Welch, CEO of U4iA Games, Matt Ployhar, President of the PCGA and Senior Product Planner at Intel, and Dan Offner, a noted game attorney at Loeb and Loeb. The second panel will present several new research initiatives from DFC Intelligence, Xfire, and Live Gamer. This panel will be moderated by David Cole, CEO of DFC Intelligence and feature Malcolm CasSelle, CEO of Xfire and Andy Scarborough, Manager, Strategic Client Services at Live Gamer.
Research being presented includes overall forecasts for how the game industry is being broken down between console, PC and mobile platforms. This will be followed by detailed findings from actual consumer usage and purchase data on how core gamers in North America are playing products and spending on games that use virtual item business models. In addition, findings from a survey of core gamers and their attitudes on game platforms from the Xbox 360 to Facebook will be presented.
The invitation only event will be attended by many of the top executives in the game industry. Anyone interested in the research findings to be presented at the event should contact DFC Intelligence at info(at)dfcint(dot)com.
