Men typically have a hard time discussing or even considering that they may be the problem when dealing with infertility.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) May 31, 2012
Sher Fertility Institute announced today that their Las Vegas fertility clinic will be offering free male fertility evaluations starting June 1 and running through the end of August. The offer coincides with the kickoff of Men’s Health Month, a national awareness and education campaign for men’s health issues observed each June.
The evaluation consists of a consultation with a physician (for the couple) and a semen analysis for the male partner, in which the sperm are evaluated for numbers (count), movement (motility), and shape (morphology). If any of these parameters are abnormal, the infertility specialist will advise the man on the appropriate treatment.
Sher Institute is also offering a free ultrasound fertility evaluation for women during the same time period. This evaluation gives an estimate how many eggs the woman has left. The purpose of the dual male/female evaluation is to bring the couple in together so a full and accurate diagnosis of fertility problems can be made.
Approximately 60% of all infertility issues involve the male partner, yet the woman generally takes the initiative to be tested first. It is usually only if there are no problems identified with the woman that the male partner will undergo testing. The problem is widespread yet highly treatable. Roughly 10% of all men have some kind of male infertility issue to overcome and 95% of all male factor cases can be effectively cured with treatment.
“Men typically have a hard time discussing or even considering that they may be the problem when dealing with infertility,” said Jeffrey Fisch, MD, Medical Director of Sher Fertility Institute Las Vegas. “They see fertility problems as a direct reflection on their manhood, when in reality, they are very common and can be very successfully treated in most cases. We just need to identify the source of the conception problems and we can usually resolve them.”
The complimentary fertility evaluation is one component of the Sher Institute’s “Giving Back” initiative, which has provided hundreds of free treatments to patients directly and through other charitable partnerships over the past 14 years.
