We started the business with the idea of making a difference and we always go back to that.

When Custom Grocery Bags launched their business a little over a year ago, the idea was to bring a streamlined ordering process to the custom reusable bags market with on demand domestic and international sourcing options. What they didn’t expect was the outpouring of support for the business and the sense of community the eco-movement has shown them. What they have learned in the process is that what’s good for the eco-friendly community is good for their business. With that philosophy in mind, the newly redesigned website has a new focus on community and eco-news along with a dramatically improved overall content of the website.
The new website features a live blog feed at the top of the home page following the latest local and national eco-friendly initiatives throughout the country. The growing reusable bag company is also highlighting some of the events they have participated in through reusable bag donations or through collaborative press releases. The journey to embracing the eco-community was something that came natural to Custom Grocery Bags finding so much common ground with the green movement. The company realized early on that giving was easily as important as sustaining the business. In fact, what they have learned is that the more they give the better the business gets!
Cory Epstein, co-founder of Custom Grocery Bags, gave us some of the reasons for giving, “We wanted to put our money and our products where our message was and get those products into the hands of the people who have already adopted the idea of switching from plastic to reusable shopping bags.” He continued, “At first we were a little reluctant to make the investment. But after about 10 minutes of talking about it, we quickly came to the conclusion that having our name on free reusable bags, provided by a local cause, was ultimately going to help the cause and the business. In fact, we came to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter if it helps the business if it helps the cause-as long as we had it in the budget. We started the business with the idea of making a difference and we always go back to that.”
One of the more recent events the company participated in was the Save Our Shores Earth day event this past April held in Santa Cruz, California. This was a big event that gave the local cause a real boost and the company was featured in the sponsors list for the event and provided free co-branded reusable bags that Save Our Shores handed out all weekend. The launch of the new website demonstrates the company’s priorities with the emphasis on community first.
