Blue Cloud Gallery Events Connect Massachusetts Artists to the Public

Blue Cloud Gallery's Betsy Lenora presents the assorted mediums of over 100 Metro-Boston area artists, adorning her shop with unique expressions in areas such as ceramics, jewelry, graphics and glass. Aside from owning the only gift shop dedicated to local artists' work, Lenora regularly hosts special events at Blue Cloud Gallery to connect her clients with the artisans behind the art. As 2012 nears the halfway mark in June, she has already catalogued a fashion designer showcase and the anniversary of her induction as gallery owner.

In February, Blue Cloud Gallery staged a fashion design event to showcase three local "fiber artists" with apparel on display in the shop. Lenora set up the "wearable art" as the centerpiece of the festivities, then opened the event to the public. Blue Cloud Gallery's clothing selections mark a substantial departure from Lenora's regular inventory, and the exhibition served as a celebration of that unique designation.

On a recent Saturday afternoon, the store filled with customers, artists, and community revelers who gathered to honor Lenora's anniversary of assuming ownership. At least 75 guests celebrated with wine or sparkling water in hand, noshing on fruit, hummus, crudités, and cookies. As a husband and wife blues and jazz duo called Raven Blues sang and played, patrons threw their names into a free raffle to win various donated works from 30 local artists. Lenora hosted the raffle to educate the public on each of her local artists' approaches before giving the pieces away.

After receiving a plethora of positive feedback from her free, publicly open anniversary event, Lenora forecasts plenty of future community soirees to strengthen ties between the community and her featured artists. As a local business owner, Lenora feels strongly about forming lasting, productive relationships with Somerville's artists and patrons.
