Dan Milstein’s new book, The ABC of Sales, has propelled upward in top sales in recent months but topped that success in May when it was blasted into outer space.
Milstein’s bestselling book, accompanied by Star Trek’s finest, entered outer space on May 5, 2012 aboard a high-altitude, helium-powered balloon 100,000 feet above the earth.
Space enthusiasts, student engineers, and Star Trek fans gathered on May 5 in Champaign, IL, to boldly go where no Star Trek character has actually gone before, accompanied by Captains Jean-Luc Picard and James T. Kirk.
A team of more than a dozen individuals, backed by several sponsors including Milstein, launched models of the iconic science fiction characters standing atop their respective starships riding a high-altitude balloon to a height of 100,000 feet. (http://www.SendPicardToSpace.com).
The capsule — which included Picard, Kirk, Riker, Data, and other action figures, six cameras and detailed life-like models of Picard’s USS Enterprise-D and Kirk’s NCC-1701 starships — was one of the most elaborate capsules ever launched in an amateur, high-altitude balloon flight.
The six cameras on the rig shot the entire journey in rich 3D, while a team from the University of Illinois Observatory used the balloon’s GPS coordinates to track and record video of the balloon from the ground during its entire flight—a first for projects of this kind.
This incredible journey to the edge of space also includes two stowaways: custom-made action figures of the two men responsible for 2009’s Star Trek movie, director J.J. Abrams and co-writer Roberto Orci.
Also aboard the balloon as it sailed into space was Milstein’s book, The ABC of Sales, (http://www.ABCofSales.com) which only 14 days before launch time was honored with a first place award in the Paris Book Festival. In March of 2012 his award winning book recorded its 10,000th sale and became the #1 Sales Book on Amazon and the 31st top seller of all ebook sales. The ABC of Sales also won first place in the General Non-Fiction category of the (DIY) Book Festival in Los Angeles as well as an honorable mention in the prestigious New England Book Fair and San Francisco Book Festival.
Milstein plans to donate his high-flying book to a charity to raise money for their cause. Because of the six cameras aboard, the book was filmed throughout the voyage and now is a star in its own video. “When it comes to success,” comments Milstein, “I truly expected my book to soar but I never anticipated it would reach such heights of grandeur!”
Only a handful of amateur, high-altitude balloon flights have made it above 100,000 feet. This pure latex Kaymont balloon expanded to more than 40 feet wide as it carried Picard, Kirk, the cameras, digital packets and advanced GPS and HAM trackers, and Milstein’s book to 100,000 feet—making it one of the most complex rigs to reach that height. The flight also made the Starfleet captains the second highest “people” in the world, behind only the astronauts on the International Space Station. At the flight’s climax, was above 99 per cent of the Earth’s atmosphere.
In his book, The ABC of Sales (ISBN 978-0-9835527-0-3), Gold Star Publishing, 2011, $19.95, 196 pages, Kindle and Audio Book, http://www.ABCofSales.com ), Milstein gives readers advice on how to reach their maximum sales potential and how to position their companies among the elite.
During the month of March this year, The ABC of Sales sold 10,000 copies and became the #1 Sales Book on Amazon and the 31st top seller of all eBook sales.
Dan Milstein was recently featured on ‘The Balancing Act’ on Lifetime Network where he shared his personal story of success. http://www.thebalancingact.com/story/?id=3648
