Toledo, OH (PRWEB) June 18, 2012
After a year's hiatus, the Toledo Symphony is pleased to announce the return of Music Under the Stars for the summer of 2012.
For over 60 years, Music Under the Stars with the Toledo Concert Band under the direction of Sam Szor provided free, family-friendly summer entertainment for the Toledo region.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsoring and supporting partners, Music Under the Stars will continue to be a beloved summer pastime. The new Mercy Music Under the Stars presented by The Andersons is also supported by The Toledo Community Foundation, Huntington Bank, Taylor Cadillac and the Toledo Zoo.
The new series will run for six consecutive Sundays at 7:30pm, July 8 through August 12. As always, concerts will occur at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre. Seating is first-come, first-serve.
Traveling to Music Under the Stars will be even easier this year. TARTA will provide a shuttle to the event (similar to the Mud Hens "Muddy Shuttle") from several regional locations. Cost to use the shuttle is $1 per person each way. Locations for pick-up and drop-off are listed below.
Details on the programming for the series will be released closer to concert dates. The series plans to honor the legacy of Sam Szor's engaging leadership of more than six decades, while creating an inviting new experience for younger audiences.
"Because the Toledo Symphony's mission is to meet the musical needs of northwest Ohio, we applaud the financial partnership of our corporate and community sponsors that keeps these lively performances a beloved summer tradition," says Kathleen Carroll, President and CEO of the Toledo Symphony.
"Free access to anyone who wants to hear music in such a lovely outdoor setting is a tremendous gift to the community," she added.
“The Toledo Symphony has a tradition of making music accessible to all parts of our community, and Music Under the Starts has been a foundation of that effort,” said Mayor Michael P. Bell. “The participation of community sponsors, including reduced fares from TARTA, reduce barriers to transportation and parking, and enable many more people to enjoy the Zoo’s historic amphitheatre and the outstanding sounds of the Toledo Symphony Concert Band. These are the collaborative partnerships that continue to improve our quality of life in Toledo.”
“Music plays an important part in each of our lives and that's why Mercy felt it was so important to ensure that Music Under the Stars -- this community's treasure -- returns to the Historic Amphitheatre at the Toledo Zoo,” said Andrea R. Price, President and CEO of Mercy.
As always, admission to Music Under the Stars is free. Parking at the Zoo is free to Toledo Zoo members and $6 for everyone else ($15 for buses and campers).
The series is produced by the Toledo Symphony.
