Leaf Brands LLC unveiled their 1.5 oz. size Astro Pops® at the 2012 Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago earlier this month, generating tons of excitement as one of the most anticipated candy launches of 2012.

There has been an 8 year hiatus since consumers have been able to purchase Astro Pops® in the marketplace. Astro Pops® were already known as the longest lasting lollipop on earth when the previous manufacturer, Spangler Candy, discontinued the product line in 2004.

According to Leaf Brands CEO Ellia Kassoff, “We literally had buyers jumping up-and-down with excitement when they saw the boxes of Astro Pops at our booth! We know so many consumers and retailers have been patiently waiting for them, so we’re thrilled we can officially announce the launch (and shipment) of Astro Pops® June 16th of this year.”

“It has taken almost 2 years to perfect the production of the famous pops. We had to totally reengineer the pop after the original equipment was sold for scrap, before we bought the rights to the iconic candy. When we first announced we were bringing Astro Pops® back to the marketplace, loyal fans nostalgic for the candy reinforced the importance of bringing back the original formula and shape. We have worked hard to ensure it was the same Astro Pop® we all loved as kids! In anticipation of its launch, we already have over 12,000 Facebook fans waiting to get a hold of the first production pieces of Astro Pops® with distributors and retailers fighting over who get the first shipments. We’re trying our best to make everyone happy,” Kassoff also noted. “Currently, we have the first orders sold-out and we’re just trying to keep production up with demand.”

A launch party is planned for Saturday, June 16 in the New York flagship store of Dylan's Candy Bar, a chain of boutique candy shops with locations in New York City, East Hampton, Houston, and soon Los Angeles and owed by Dylan Lauren, daughter of fashion designer Ralph Lauren.

Dylan’s will sell the larger 1.5 oz. Specialty/Candy Store Edition Astro Pop®, with a suggested retail price of $2.49. The larger pop will only be available in specialty and candy stores. Later in the year, the original 1 oz. size pop will be available through larger drug and supermarket chains at a suggested retail price of $1.89.

Leaf Brands® has also expanded the Astro Pops® product line to generate excitement behind this loved candy brand. In addition to the re-launch of Astro Pops® in its three original flavors of passion fruit, cherry, and pineapple, the other products that expand the Astro Pops® franchise include:

  •     Astro Pop Asteroids® - A NEW take on the classic favorite! The classic Astro Pops® rocket pop blasted into tiny, bite-sized pieces!
  •     Astro Pops® Sodas are available in the three original flavors of the iconic lollipop: Pineapple, Passion Fruit and Cherry. The real fun is mixing all three flavors together, creating your own Astro Pop®! Suggested retail price is $1.99 for a 12 oz. bottle and is currently available at RocketFizz stores and other retailers throughout the country.
  •     Giant Astro Pop® - The classic Astro Pop rocket lollipop in its three flavors: passion fruit, cherry and pineapple, in a GIANT, 2 lb. version. Suggested Retail Price is $45.00.
