Birmingham, UK (PRWEB) June 04, 2012
United Steels Group, a flatrolled steel service center, has implemented the metal service center ERP software eSTELPLAN from the metal industry software specialist Invera. United Steels migrated from the Invera ERP software product STELPLAN.
United Steels implemented a full complement of eSTELPLAN features such as on-line sales order entry, shop-floor production recording, purchasing and receiving functions, a comprehensive flatrolled-specific production system to computerize all flatrolled production, stock-taking with RF hand-held devices, as well as the load and delivery functions. They also use the integrated financials functions for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and the General Ledger.
Andy Mitchell, Commercial Director at United Steels, commented, "The eSTELPLAN metal software is extremely reliable, robust, proven technology that had the specific features related to our strip products (coil and sheet) business as standard features, which allowed us to implement eSTELPLAN with very few modifications. But the single biggest selling point for United Steels was the people at Invera; there is a degree of dedication and care that comes from the employees."
For Sales, United Steels benefited from the Sales Order Entry function. United Steels was able to benefit from the metal-specific fields, which are built into the software, to enter a sales order for a strip product, either slit coil or sheet, along with customer requirements such as tolerances, remarks, and packaging specifications. The sales department also benefited from the on-line Order Status Inquiry that allows their sales staff to provide the status of the customer’s Sales Order at a single glance, including processing status, shipping, and invoicing information.
The receiving department is able to receive the coils into eSTELPLAN with metal-specific fields including grade, gauge, micrometer readings for the gauge width, width range at the ID and OD, as well as the ID of the coil. United Steels print bar-coded tags from eSTELPLAN, to attach to the material, which provides for better inventory control.
The United Steels production department is making full use of computerized flat-rolled production functions in eSTELPLAN. The production planner can group multiple order items together to create a slitting or cut-to-length job. For slitting jobs, the planner can specify the arbor layout, OD breaks, as well as additional slitting-specific functions such as run full or partial, slit and reslit, and trim.
In the warehouse, United Steels implemented the Physical Inventory function using a RF device. During the Physical Inventory (stock take), the warehouse can simply scan the coil and sheet bar-coded tags in the warehouse, which automatically loads the information into the eSTELPLAN function, where any variances can be reviewed and reconciled.
Sales and Accounting have benefited from the eSTELPLAN email/fax integration. They are able to instantly email/fax business documents directly to the customer from within an Order, Shipment, Invoice, etc. This is a savings of time, labor, and materials. It also benefits customers who prefer emailed documents.
A seamless integration of native metal industry terminology, functions, and features made the eSTELPLAN metal enterprise software fast to deploy with minimum implementation costs. United Steels migrated from the Invera ERP software product STELPLAN.
Kim Tiltman, the Financial Director at United Steels, said, "We have been very pleased with the implementation of eSTELPLAN at our company. Invera was very responsive to our questions and provided fantastic support throughout the entire process. The communication between the two companies was fantastic, which helped facilitate all aspects of the project."
eSTELPLAN ON-DEMAND Hosting Service
United Steels chose the eSTELPLAN ON-DEMAND hosting service to allow them to focus on their core metal operations and outsource their technology operational requirements. With this service, all software applications and data are hosted at the Invera Technology Center. This hosting service is used by nearly half of Invera's customers today.
Tony Di Tomaso, Vice President of Customer Services at Invera, said, "eSTELPLAN is an excellent fit for United Steels, and the working relationship between the two companies complements that fit. We are also excited to continue expanding our ON-DEMAND hosting service in our customer base, which has successfully extended to our overseas customers as well."
