5o9®, Inc. (dba 3PMobile™) was granted a new patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. U.S. Patent No. 8,156,206, entitled “Contextual Data Communications Platform.” This is the second patent issued to the Mobile Web company, extends the use of content for greater support of internet privacy. Like the first, this patent pertains to improving the mobile Web experience by delivering real-time contextual information via the Web, which is used by Web services to programmatically improve privacy, performance and personalization.
“We are very excited about our second patent,” said 3PMobile CEO, Peter Cranstone. “It reflects our team’s beliefs of how important context and privacy are to improving the mobile Web experience. Securely delivering context, or information about my current situation or preferences to a Web service, must be tempered by choice over what data is shared - and with whom. The current lack of clear choice is what’s driving the global Do Not Track (DNT) initiative and recent EU privacy directives.”
The company’s first product is called Choice™. It is an enterprise browser that helps organizations to manage mobile Web privacy, compliance and support in BYOD environments. Choice™ is fully customizable for each enterprise, including data selection, branding and encryption. All data formats and integration techniques use existing Web standards, making mobile Web initiatives achievable for companies with limited or no mobile development resources.
When asked about consumer markets, Cranstone noted, “Our focus is on enterprises with a mobile workforce, however our patents represent a significant opportunity for consumer Web service providers to differentiate themselves via privacy. DNT is just the first step in preference-driven, contextual Web services. Real choice, based upon real-time context, is where we need to be.” Choice™ delivered data may be used instead of tracking - or to augment existing targeting strategies. As the company’s latest patent has implications relative to the DNT standard in progress, 3PMobile is offering to work with privacy-conscious organizations to provide royalty-free licensing of the ‘206 patent, specifically for use in supporting the upcoming DNT standard. Please contact 3PMobile for licensing details. This is the core team’s second contribution to the Web community - the first being the open source release of Mod_Gzip in 2000.
3PMobile™ develops software that improves the mobile Web experience by delivering to enterprises, the data they need to effectively manage performance, privacy and personalization - the “Three P’s” of a great mobile Web experience. The Choice™ enterprise browser uses Web standards to deliver mobile user & device data to a Web service - data that enables the real-time management of enterprise privacy and compliance policies. The company’s mission is to enable a great mobile Web experience by balancing the user’s need for privacy and convenience with the enterprise’s need for commerce and control.
