Security is now a global concern and the need for highly competent professionals has never been greater. This year ASIS International (ASIS) celebrates the 35th anniversary of its security certification program, which encompasses three certifications: Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP).
“With the increasing mobility of security practitioners and the need to work together across functional areas and across borders, an established mark of professional proficiency is vital,” stated ASIS President Eduard J. Emde, CPP. “In this competitive job market, the importance of certification to one’s career cannot be overstated,” he added.
The largest organization for security management professionals in the world, ASIS recognized in the 1970s the need for a standard measure of knowledge, skills, and abilities that employers could use in hiring for new positions and promoting those within organizations. The first ASIS board certification was awarded in 1977.
Today, ASIS certifications are considered the worldwide standard for competency in the security profession. More than 3,500 organizations in 85 countries around the world employ ASIS board-certified practitioners.
“More organizations recognize the importance of ASIS certifications as their chief security officers, directors, and managers attain global responsibilities,” said Richard F. Lisko, CPP, president of the ASIS Professional Certification Board (PCB), which oversees the certification program. “The exam validates an international approach to global security applications and trends.”
ASIS will recognize certificants throughout the year and with special activities at the ASIS International 58th Annual Seminar and Exhibits in Philadelphia, September 10-13, 2012.
