Baltimore Eats, a popular foodie magazine and restaurant guide, now focuses on identifying itself as an online restaurant directory. Alongside representing the greater Baltimore area’s offerings, Eats has also expanded into Washington, DC (including Northern Virginia), with Washington Eats, and the Eastern Shore area with Eastern Shore Eats. All Eats sites feature homepage videos of spotlighted restaurants, with tastings of cuisine and interviews with the chef or owners. The front pages feature relevant articles, up- to date foodie blogs, “hot deals” for consumers to take advantage of, and user-submitted restaurant reviews. There is also an events calendar within each site, with local upcoming food and drink related events. The “Eats Finder” restaurant directory portion of the site is available in a mobile version, with GPS detection, for all smart phones with internet access. By setting up an account on the website, users can choose to be notified via email or text which deals they would like to receive from their favorite restaurants. By signing up for their favorite choices, this eliminates excessive notifications.
Eats also actively uses Facebook fan pages and Twitter accounts for each market. These sites utilize foodie trends and information, photo sharing, and contests for restaurant gift cards, event tickets, and getaways.
