Leading Analyst Firm Acknowledges OpenDNS’s Security Innovations with “Cool Vendor” Distinction

OpenDNS is on the cutting edge of a new age in Internet security

OpenDNS, the world's largest Internet-wide security network – making the Internet safer, faster and more reliable for tens of millions of people every day – today announced that it has been named a Cool Vendor in Cloud Security by leading analyst firm Gartner.

Every year Garter identifies key areas of security with increasing importance. Gartner then assembles a list of the most innovative solution providers for each – the Cool Vendors report – that Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and others tasked with evaluating technologies for their organizations should consider as they select services to protect and secure their people and networks. OpenDNS is included as one of only four companies in the 2012 report.

OpenDNS is the leading provider of unique security services that use its DNS platform and intelligence to protect workforces around the world from malware, botnets, phishing and other nefarious traffic. As of May 2012, more than 50 million people around the world, including the employees of numerous Fortune 100 organizations that have chosen the service, rely on OpenDNS every day. OpenDNS users are deeply passionate about its technologies and cause and a great deal of growth is directly attributable to recommendations and advocacy.

The Gartner recognition is a tremendous honor for OpenDNS and a testament to both the success and momentum OpenDNS Enterprise is demonstrating in business markets around the world. OpenDNS also sees the Gartner report as an indication that Gartner recognizes the market opportunity that the company is perfectly positioned to address in 2012 and beyond.

“OpenDNS is on the cutting edge of a new age in Internet security, one where information workers connect to the Internet via multiple different networks in a single day. Simply put, everyone is a remote worker and the old guard of Internet security is no longer as effective as it once was,” said OpenDNS CEO David Ulevitch. “Across the company we’re extremely excited about this recognition from Gartner, knowing the lengthy process the firm employs to vet and carefully choose companies to include in the Cool Vendors report.”
