About the Author
Mailen Izquierdo was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, in September 1959. The daughter of humble peasants grew among old books, music and improvised poetry. Her paternal grandmother was commissioned to put her education above all. At a young age, Izquierdo already felt a fascination for theater, music, and literature. She studied Performing Arts at the National School of Arts, but did not graduate because her family decided to leave the island. Izquierdo has lived in South Florida with her family and two children, Steven and Gabriella since 1983. She has worked as a manager for many years and this is her first foray into the realm of poetry.
