Today Pearson (NYSE:PSO) announced that Newton Public Schools, NJ, has selected Pearson’s Schoolnet for PowerSchool as its new web-based Instructional Management System (IMS). Pearson’s Schoolnet for PowerSchool will serve Newton’s more than 1,550 students, increasing the flow of information between schools, staff, parents, and students.

Newton School District selected Schoolnet for PowerSchool based on its comprehensive tools to manage student data, build and deliver assessments and lesson plans, and report on student achievement.

“Pearson’s Schoolnet for PowerSchool provides a solution that can help even smaller districts like ours address multiple needs today and raise our productivity. Without having the resources for add-on applications requiring costly technical support, we still need to be able to analyze student data, improve curricular delivery, design standards-based assessments, and communicate results in real time. Schoolnet for PowerSchool will allow us to take on these related tasks using one unified solution,” said Dr. G. Kennedy Greene, superintendent of Newton Public Schools.

“We are pleased to partner with Newton Public Schools, as we share the common vision that our unified solution will positively impact student performance and district reporting processes,” said Mark Chernis, chief operating officer of the K-12 Technology group of Pearson. “The system’s robust feature set and ability to scale will allow for a significant impact in helping the district meets its short and long term goals.”

Schoolnet for PowerSchool brings together two of Pearson’s award-winning products to offer easy to implement, preconfigured tools that unify student management and instructional improvement activities. Now in one platform, districts can turn instructional planning, delivery, assessment, and adaptation into a smooth cycle of continuous improvement. Schoolnet for PowerSchool will serve as the technology backbone for Newton Public Schools.

Newton Public Schools expect to complete the implementation of Schoolnet for PowerSchool by August, 2012, in time for start of school.
