The Anapol Schwartz Foundation (ASF) is pleased to announce that physical therapist Curry Durborow has been selected as the winner of the 2012 Advocate Award for her work benefitting the brain injury community. Established by law firm Anapol Schwartz, P.C., the Foundation designates a portion of profits to assist individuals affected by disabling injuries lead better, more productive lives.

“Ms. Durborow’s length of achievements is extraordinary,” said Joel Feldman, Managing Partner at Anapol Schwartz, P.C. “We had five outstanding finalists in our region and the fact that our online voting was so close speaks to their talent and dedication to improving the lives of others.”

Holding a specialized certificate in locomotor training at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, Durborow has long assisted patients with recovery. She has participated in TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) research and education projects, and presented those projects to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Perhaps most notably, she is recognized for her creation and continued organization of the Annual Race for Recovery 5K, held in West Chester since 2009. Now called the Walk, Roll, Run for Thought: Race for Recovery, the event is open to runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes.

“It is truly an honor to have been chosen,” said Durborow. “The support in raising awareness, as well as for those who have sustained brain injuries and their families, is inspiring!”

Durborow will formally receive the 2012 Anapol Advocate Award during a presentation later this summer. As part of the prize, the ASF – which has given out more than $250,000 to date - will present a $5,000 grant to the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (selected by Durborow) on her behalf.

“This grant will enable the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania to continue to prevent brain injuries and improve the quality of life for people who already have experienced brain injury, as well as their family members. The support, education, advocacy and research the Association provides is critical to so many,” said Durborow.
