Behlman Electronics Inc., known for its leadership in power products for military, industrial, and commercial applications, has been awarded a follow-on contract to provide Behlman DCS Series Power Supplies to energize the fire control systems for the main gun on a new U.S. Navy DDG 1000 class Destroyer.

Behlman’s Model DCS1000D, DCS1000T, DCS2000D and DCS2000T are COTS power supplies that are designed and manufactured to withstand the rigors of shipboard, airborne and mobile applications. These base-plate-cooled, switch-mode power supplies have earned a reputation for being highly reliable and extremely rugged. They are designed to meet the input power requirements of MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-1399.

DDG 1000 Destroyers are designed for a wide variety of missions with focus on the littorals (near shore) and land attack, and will provide independent forward presence and deterrence, support special operations forces, and operate as an integral part of joint and combined expeditionary forces.

Each ship features a battery of two Advanced Gun Systems (AGS) firing Long-Range Land Attack Projectiles (LRLAP) that reach up to 63 nautical miles, providing a 3-fold improvement in naval surface fires coverage. Behlman DCS power supplies are an integral part of some of their fire control systems.

According to Behlman President, Ronald Storm, “It was gratifying to learn that our power supplies have been selected to be among the latest state-of-the-art technologies being built into the U.S. Navy’s DDG 1000 Class Destroyers. I am confident that the performance of our DCS Series Power Supplies will continue to exceed the Navy’s expectations and fully support their mission.”

With Input Transient Protection per Mil-STD-1399-1; 86-265 VAC at 47 to 440 Hz, and outputs from 5 VDC to 56 VDC, there are power supplies in the Behlman DCS Series that will meet the needs of many high-end military and industrial applications. These proven COTS designs are also surprisingly economical.
