DestinationDoc is the first app aimed at providing travelers with access to the best doctors in many specialties at their travel destinations.
The founding partners, including a healthcare business veteran in Silicon Valley and two orthopedic surgeons in London, realized a problem that themselves and their friends who travel frequently weren't able to find a solution to: finding trustworthy healthcare resources during an emergency or for treatment of a chronic condition while traveling. Seeing an opportunity, they founded DestinationDoc to solve that problem.
Unlike current options, it is not merely a list of any doctor or doctors covered by a certain insurance plan. DestinationDoc does research on doctor case mix, peer review, education, research, awards, and accolades to hand-pick the best 5-10 doctors in each specialty in a given city. This effort is being led by the two founders who are well respected orthopedists in the first city covered by DestinationDoc, London, England.
Once a user selects their specialty of interest, and the doctor they want, they can call or email from the app to set an appointment. DestinationDoc also provides travelers with information on hospitals and pharmacies nearby them, as well as travel tips.
The DestinationDoc iPhone app is now available on the App Store.
