Wellington Retreat, a local treatment center that provides care to individuals suffering from addiction and other psychiatric disorders, understands that these diseases have a huge impact on the entire family system. Therefore, Wellington will be hosting a “Weekend Family Education Program” from Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 1 that is designed to empower our patients’ families with education, support, and hope, throughout all stages of treatment. To be held at the Holiday Inn at 1301 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach, expert guest speakers will offer informative and supportive presentations that will help to ease the family’s anxiety and stress and answer any questions regarding their loved one’s well being or their own.
“The Family Education Program is a place where family members are able to share their own personal strengths, hopes, and fears, all in a safe, comfortable, and confidential environment,” said Wellington Retreat’s Medical Director and CEO Dr. Robert A. Moran. “It is where they will be provided with the tools they need to help rebuild a trusting and healthy relationship with a family member who is currently in treatment.”
Through this active and engaging program, family members will learn about the disease of addiction, as well as other issues, such as enabling and will learn how to improve communication skills, establish appropriate boundaries, understand relapse prevention, and be introduced to 12 step self-help programs, such as AA, NA, and Al-Anon. Family members and patients will be able to dine together for lunch, as well as meet and listen to several of Wellington Retreat’s success stories. By the weekend’s end, Wellington Retreat hopes to instill the idea that addiction and other psychiatric disorders can be arrested, allowing for patients and their families to lead healthy and successful lives.
