There are limitations associated with the use of elastic compression stockings including lack of compliance, comfort and overall effectiveness in reducing actual PTS symptoms. Other forms of PTS treatment are quite scarce leaving PTS sufferers largely underserved and vulnerable.
After a lack of advancement in the field for years, the Venowave was introduced and tested for treatment of severe PTS. The Venowave VW5, inspired by inventor and entrepreneur, John Saringer—working with Dr. Jack Hirsh, a professor of medicine at McMaster University, and associated teaching hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario—says the Venowave VW5 has a natural superiority over compression stockings. The device consists of a small peristaltic pump that is attached around the calf and mimics the body’s venous system relieving pressure & swelling. Although the application of mechanic compression devices to treat PTS is not entirely new, earlier devices were large and impractical.
