Lynchburg, VA (PRWEB) June 08, 2012
Liberty University’s 3rd-12th grade online homeschool program, Liberty University Online Academy, celebrated the achievements of 97 graduates during the university’s 2012 Commencement weekend.
Thirty of the 97 graduates attended the Commencement ceremony on May 12 to the cheers of more than 34,000. Unlike many homeschool graduations, thousands of people celebrate this monumental milestone, because Liberty Online Academy’s graduation coincides with Liberty University’s Commencement on campus in Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty Online Academy’s ninety-seven different stories of success and aspiration read like a who’s who of high school achievement with everyone celebrating the completion of this phase of their lives and continuing into their future. Because of this, students are branching out into a myriad of careers and opportunities through which they will impact the world for Christ.
With greater demands and challenges facing high school students today, Liberty Online Academy provides a gateway to attaining success and flexibility for high school students to achieve their goals. Many students balance jobs, special interests, family relocations, and more, while obtaining a strong academic background and achieving personal success through their individualized programs of study.
For many students, Liberty Online Academy allows students to pursue their passions while achieving their goals. Graduate Bridget Lane experienced this on her journey when she was selected by Virginian members of the U.S. Senate to become a part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (NASA VASTS).
According to NASA Langley Research Center, the VASTS program is an interactive science, technology, engineering, and mathematics program for high school juniors and seniors. Taking part in this extensive educational experience, Lane was able to excel in the program while finishing her studies with Liberty Online Academy.
“While a large portion of the students dropped the course because of its rigorous workload, I completed the program with a 98 percent, and was recommended by my lead master teacher to be offered the NASA Summer Internship Extension,” Lane said.
Lane was offered the NASA Summer Internship Extension, where she will gain an exclusive experience unlike many students right out of high school.
“I am grateful for Liberty University Online Academy, for helping me with all of my endeavors and the invaluable experiences I have received,” Lane said. “I look forward to representing Liberty Online Academy well.”
While Lane will attend George Mason University, 34 of her fellow classmates will call Liberty University home this fall.
For these students, investing in an online homeschool education has resulted in immediate college savings. Through Liberty’s Dollar-for-Dollar Tuition Scholarship Match, every dollar spent for a student enrolled in Liberty’s online academy is credited toward undergraduate tuition in a four-year resident program at Liberty University.
“We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our students and anticipate their future success as they continue to impact their communities and the world in this next phase of life,” said Jay Spencer, Dean of Liberty University Online Academy.
Liberty Online Academy students receive quality, affordable, Christ-centered education, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).
