A panel of special education administrators and clinical experts will share first-hand experiences of their use of telepractice during a free webinar titled “Speech Telepractice: Good, Bad or Ugly?” hosted by PresenceLearning (http://www.presencelearning.com), the leading provider of live online speech therapy for schools. Moderated by esteemed special education expert Dr. Barbara J. Moore, the webinar will outline how simple and inexpensive technologies are enabling a growing number of schools to adopt telepractice to improve student outcomes, address critical personnel shortfalls and address gaps in speech therapy services for children. Additionally, the panel of experts will share their real world experiences for speech-language therapy telepractice and answer questions from the audience during the webinar.

Panelists for the webinar include, Dr. Shari Robertson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Research at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; Dr. Lynda Donahue, Special Education Director of Vacaville Unified School District in California; and Melissa Jakubowitz, M.A., CCC-SLP, Vice President of Speech Language Pathology (SLP) Services for PresenceLearning and past president of the California Speech-Language Hearing Association.

By attending the webinar, participants will: understand the definition, technologies, benefits and limitations of SLP telepractice based on real-world examples; gain insight about the roles and responsibilities of the special education administrator, the SLP and other related school personnel in relation to telepractice; and become familiar with the body of research related to telepractice for the delivery of speech therapy in educational settings.

About Dr. Shari Robertson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Dr. Robertson was formerly a President of the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association and will be chairing the 2010 ASHA National Convention. Prior to obtaining her doctorate at UW-Madison, she was a school-based SLP and Special Education Director in West Bend, WI. Having presented more than 200 workshops and seminars over the past 5 years, she is dedicated to bridging the gap between researchers and practicing clinicians. Dr. Robertson is also the Associate Editor of Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in the Schools.

About Dr. Lynda Donahue, Ed.D.
Dr. Lynda Donahue is the Director of Special Education in Vacaville, CA, retiring in June 2012 after serving 37 years as an educator. Lynda's career includes working as a school-based speech and language specialist, a special day class teacher, and a special education administrator. While working on her doctorate at the University of San Francisco, she participated as a fellow in the Education Specialist credential program. Lynda is also an adjunct professor at Touro University in Vallejo, CA.

About Melissa Jakubowitz, M.A., CCC-SLP
Melissa Jakubowitz, M.A., CCC-SLP has more than 20 years of clinical and managerial experience. She is a Board Recognized Specialist in Child Language and is the past-president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association, which, with more the 5,000 SLP members, is the largest SLP state association in the country. She is also active in ASHA, serving as Legislative Counselor for 12 years. Jakubowitz began her career working in the public schools and is currently the chief clinical officer for PresenceLearning.

About Dr. Barbara J. Moore, Ed.D.
Dr. Barbara J. Moore is the Director of Special Youth Services in Anaheim Union High School District in Anaheim, CA. Dr. Moore is the ASHA Vice President of Planning, and former president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA) and the Council for State Association Presidents (CSAP). A Board Recognized Specialist in Child Language, she lectures widely on issues related to special education, response-to-intervention and school based speech-language services. Along with Dr. Judy Montgomery, Dr. Moore has co-authored Making A Difference for America’s Children: Speech-Language Pathologists in Public Schools (2nd Edition) and START-IN: A Response to Intervention Program.
