Alexandre M. Furman, MD has joined Pulmonary & Sleep of Tampa Bay. Most recently he was an attending physician at the VA Medical Center Emergency Department in Detroit, during which time he was also a fellow in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center.

He holds certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine and in endobronchial ultrasound and Super Dimension Bronchoscopy. He is board eligible in pulmonary medicine and with the American Clinical Board of Nutrition. He is also in the process of earning certifications in hyperbaric medicine and ultrasound and echocardiography.

Dr. Furman earned his medical degree at St. George University in Grenada, West Indies, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He interned and completed his residency in internal medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.

During his more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Furman also has held positions at St. George University, Swedish Covenant Hospital, and the Chicago Professional Training Center. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the American Colleges of Physicians, Chest Physicians, and Emergency Physicians.

            Dr. Furman has produced a number of research papers and presentations ranging from such topics as thyroid testing in acute psychiatric cases to “Lipid Profile Testing in Acute Myocardial Infarction.”
