By far the most popular major for college freshman is “undecided.” And while there’s nothing wrong with beginning the college experience as one of the legions of undecided undergraduates, students should still make every effort to come to a decision sooner rather than later.

  •     Studies have shown that students who choose a major early on increase their odds of graduating and of graduating on time.
  •     An analysis of census data has showed that while a college degree is of course valuable, its value can be strongly affected by a student’s major. Statistically, nearly all college graduates have much higher lifetime earnings than those without a college degree, but people who studied certain fields (like engineering) had lifetime earnings of more than double that of people in other fields (like education).
  •     Choosing a major early on can create additional educational opportunities. Students who select a major early may be able to add a second major, a minor, or a certification in another field, thereby making themselves far more marketable upon graduation.
  •     Many majors have complex graduation requirements. For these fields, students who wait too long to declare a major are likely to take longer to graduate.

C2 Education specializes in helping students get accepted to the colleges of their dreams, but the process doesn’t end there. C2 recognizes the importance of providing guidance beyond high school graduation so that students can step foot on campus feeling confident and motivated. To reach this goal, C2 will be hosting a Majors and Careers Workshop series in California this summer.

C2 Education’s Majors and Careers Workshop will be hosted by Ms. Francis Kevers, the Head of Human Capital for C2 Education, who is also a UCLA Certified College Counselor and MIT Graduate. Ms. Kevers will offer her years of HR experience to help students learn how best to select a major and plan for a career. During the workshop, Ms. Kevers will share insights regarding why picking a major is important, how your personality might affect your career choices, and how to pick a career that will take you places. Attendees will also be put in the role of a college student as they complete the worksheets and materials provided to real Stanford students through their Career Development Center.

The Majors and Careers series will be offered in Southern and Northern California from June 18 through July 13th. Space is extremely limited, so be sure to register now! Registration is just $45 for those who register online ($95 at the door). As an added incentive, all attendees will be offered a FREE diagnostic test and consultation (a $95 value)!
